I'm staying first night at my new New-Zealand home. Or this is Matt Walker's home, but he will be elsewhere for at least next 4 weeks, so I can stay here. I have also got a car. It's a nice one. I bought it from internet auction. Exciting! It's pretty basic over here. Final price were 1000 euros (about 1350 US dollas). Left sided traffic hasn't couse any problems. When driver is on the wrong side, you automatically start to drive on the wrong side too. Still everytime I walk to the car I go to the passenger side. God damn. One basic thing is just keep in mind when you drive you want to be in the middle of the road.
BMX races are called as "BMX meetings". It's sounds funny, reminds me some business meetings. Light switches works upside down. Meaning when lever is up, the lights are off. Always when I leave the room I snap the lights on. Bummer! Automation. Also, water hosts closes to wrong way. So when my water bottle is full I turn the water on with full power. And once again I go to change my shirt. Sun dries pretty fast. Even if the temperature is same as in Finland, sun is super hot. When you are sun bathing you don't burn your skin. But 6 hours afterwards you start to turn pink. I guess you got burned anyways. Believe me I have been sun bathing in many places, but never seen anything like this. What else? I haven't tested the way of water spins when it's draining. Sarah told me she has tested it, so I need to make video of that.
There is couple things which can be found only from NZ. One is silver fern. Fern which leaves looks basic green on the top, but bottom side is silver. These are used to show the route in the dark. Silver fern is also shown in NZ National BMX jersey. Other endemic thing for NZ is Kiwi bird. I haven't still seeing that bird. New Zealanders calls themselves "Kiwis" according to the Kiwi bird. In the beggining I thought they meant some ethnic goups, like Maoris, but Kiwis are used for all NZers.
Ou yea, couple blunders from beginning. I had thought that NZ dollar is about the same as euro. And I also had been told that this is an expensive place. Couple first days I were in the grosery story having hard time thinking how can I manage the time over here. I ate only oatmeal and couldn't believe the prices of meat. I found out that I had made small mistake while counting the currency. NZ dollar is 0,6 euros. Much better, coz that means the prices are little bit lower than in Finland. And then this accent. Now is 4 weeks passed and I'm starting to understand what people are saying. In the beginning I were totally freezed. The best moment was when we watched tv-program with USA accent. I were thinking: "OMG there is no subtitles, they can't understand anything". At the same time I realized that it's the same language.
Couple days ago I were on MTB ride and 2 mini kengurus were jumping on the track ahead of me. Can't make it much cooler!
