I have few nice videos from World Champs. This one is the one I have watched most, but the one like less. Everytime I'm screaming: INSIDE!!! but doesn't seem to help at all.
Worlds are over for me. Slightly disaponted. At the same time I'm really glad to see how much I have improved. Cruiser racing started with a crash. Everyone of our moto went down in 1st turn. I were the first one to get up and the first one over the finish line.
Second round. We had only 4 riders left coz others got hurt in the crash. That means we all will go to the semifinals. I take next round little easier (because we are all in). I'm 3rd in the last turn and the last rider comes and take me down. I'm on the ground again.
3rd moto. I'm pissed off. We are all in, but I'm not gonna play "bowling" anymore. I got second. What means I end up as 2nd from our moto. It's good because it makes semi easier (actually it didn't) but at least I get to pick my gate in better order.
Semi-finals. I'm 3rd to pick the gate and take gate 3. I'm also 3rd out of the 1st turn. I leave inside open. AGAIN! One rider passes me from there. I close the inside. So on the 3rd straight I'm 4th. 4 goes to the finals. Last turn. I take it too easy. Girl behind me pushes me up and takes last place in finals. That was total charity. I had it, but gave it away...
Well, also some really good riders were left out from finals. Win went to right one. American girl who took 2nd yesterday got 1st today. I better go practice more.
Disapointed but complaced +whole body is in pain (++I need a new helmet)
Just fast report: Today I had 20 inch race in World Champs. I was so nervous in morning. Just too much.. I went for a walk. Came back to hotel. Slept and ate and got to the arena and I'm all good. Not nervous at all...
From the motos I got 4th, 3rd and 3rd. I'm pretty clad for those. Two first riders were pretty good. So I made it to the quarters.
I'm not nervous at all. I got to pick my gate. There was left gates 5 to 8 so I took 5. No one crashed, but I rode myself to the semis. So cool!!
Semi finals. I got gate 7. I had good gate but I got left behind a bit. Out from the 1st turn I'm 3rd. STUPID and I leave the inside open! Stupid stupid stupid. 2 riders comes pass me. 3rd is trying to come and I put my elbows out. We crash!
Head first to the second jump. For a moment I were sailing. Not knocked out, but just head totally messed. My both front teeth is missing some small parts. I got over the finnish line without help but I were out from main :( It was so close. That was the best racing I have ever had! It was so close...
I got my first practice on track today. Just awesome!! Unbelievably good feeling.. I want to get back there. People are just whining about the track. Not riders tho. Parents: "too short", "too easy", "too hard", "too soft".. blaah, riders liked it :)
Track is short, so you got to go fast right from beginning. First jump is easy. Starting hill is steep!!! Really Steep, but it's nice to pedal down.. feels like we get a part of the joy what elites have :) This is lot about pedaling and few places you really have to manual :) YIPPIIIII!!!!!!
And my team is just over the top. Steve as the coach came to give me some tips during the practice. Gordon my mechanic changed my tire. So no more wholes or fixing with super glue. Mum is perfect with cooking and dad takes care of my stuff when needed (he is happy to ride my cruiser bike back to hotel).. Perfect!! :)
In Finnish I wrote few words about my schedules because I got question about them to my blog.. here is photos of my new national jersey. I like it!
I found couple photos of World Champ track. It feels kinda funny to practice with the same girls I'm gonna race with. But we all help each others. Give tips how to get over faster or more stable.. Well actually some smaller kids have had some issues about coaching. The same coach has told to not coach other girl in same class. Ridiculous I would say. From all this I started to think how is it with pros.
I call Sarah to come to the track while I was in Cambridge. I asked her what she thinks about that. She told right away that she helps other pros the best she can. She even helped Laura Smulders so much before the Olympics that Laura beat her in 2 first races. "It's nicer to win others when they are doing their best, but in Challenge classes people get more serious". That's funny too.. Absolutely fantastic! Ok, the photos :)
Yahoo! My parents arrived to NZ today. I had told them that I will come to airport to pick them up. My schedule got messed up (coz I was watching races from Las Vegas on live.. ) I were meant to stop on the way at Cambridge for practice. Rush... Parents can take care of themselves, but practices don't happen without me. I left my parents on their own :/ I felt little more sorry for that when after 50 hours travelling to get to NZ they couldn't find the right highway.. (Auckland traffic is mess)
But my practice were perfect. Actually I got to ride on two tracks. At the moment practice means 5 sprints which lasts 5sec each. For that you got to warm up and cool down tho. Anyway I got flat tire just on perfect time so I head to meet my parents. Happy ending; I got finnish bread and parents are sleeping in their own bed room <3
A moment of piece. To do -list doesn't even look that bad. Everything happens for a reason. The person you meet is the right person. Everything is happening on the right time. There is no such thing as a wrong time or wrong place. After I have understood that my life has became way easier. Well, I still have some learning to do, but I'm going pretty well already.
LIfe has got easier; I don't need to get anxious if things doesn't turn out the way I expected. If something gets totally fucked up I shrug my eyebrowns or even might smirk. Learn from the situation and go on. That feels amazing!! Like being aware that you can't control everything, atleast not the past.
Working with psychologist David Galbraith has being tremendous. Also my local BMX coach Lisa Horlor supports me with the work I do with David. She also encourages me for joga and meditation. Her effect to my riding has been unbelievable. But this all actually started from my fitness coach Kari Ormo. I talked with him via skype yesterday and he is the man! I'm so glad I once picked up the phone and called him. With trembling voice I told him who I am and asked if he wants to work with me. Now I can't wait that next season starts and I get to work on my fitness and power. Who would have believed that? :)
I'm trying to say that work is done. My fitness is not gonna get any better before the Worlds. Last touch for speed is the thing for last week. I know how to do gate. I know how to pedal. I know how to get over the first jump. Pump. Pump and pedal at the same time. I can do good turns and keep my line.
The biggest change in my riding for last 6 months as come by changing the riding position. When handle bar hits your chest you are forward enough. You don't wait anything, you hit everything with no fear. Your whole body is moving all the time. You need to anticipate everything. If you want to pedal between start hill and 1st jump, you need to start pedaling when you are still going down the starting hill. If you wanna manual over the first you need to push your legs when you are still on half way of the lip. The difference between that when you believe yourself, remember that you are strong and that you doubt yourself is huge.
I got a comment to one previous posts about jumping. Rider explaned that he has started to getting sideways always when he jumps. I would say the most common reason why jump goes side ways is that you pull more with one hand. I recommend to do check list (attack position, preload, push first hands then legs, reach high meaning that you straighten your hands and legs while flying). That works for me. Before the jump you do it your mind as many time as you can see and feel it happening. You start the imagination from the point where you start getting speed. If you start from the next turn, or from the preload, while you get there you have already being thinking all the wrong things. Worst would be the thought of failing. In this case I would concentrate on both hads doing the same move. This the best tips I can give without seing the jump. I hope you get it!
After last blog post I decided to post something 3 times in next week. That didn't happen.
Hey, but World Champs are really close. I have signed in, I have my jerseys ordered.. Everything is going good over here. Last weekend I was racing again. I race in women super-class and men's cruiser. Race went pretty well. I were better with cruiser bike but I'm happy for both.
Ou'no, I just remember that I will have practice tomorrow at 12pm so I got to get to sleep. I love this life. I don't dare to promising anything about when I will post something again. 2 weeks that Worlds starts. I got work with speed and I just saw my gate from last weekend race and I'm jumping up.. something to do for last 2 weeks ;)
